What Are Teenage Eating Disorders |
You might have heard of how much junk food we eat every day and we should try to take nutritive food. However, there are a lot of teenagers that have sever eating disorders problems, this is a serious issue in the US.
Million of teenagers under 20 have eating disorders and most of the are women, however there are at least 1 million of men with eating disorders. If you have this problem you need to seek help.
Here is the thing, teenage eating disorders are mostly the consequence of psychological problems, but how come or why? Yes teenagers pass through a difficult time at this age and can get rebellious sometimes, but an eating disorder can be self destructive and is not a normal thing.
There are tow categories of eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia, both are very dangerous, 20% of the people with eating disorders like anorexia that are not treat it properly die.
However, when anorexia is treat it with professional help the percentage of deaths is 2 to 3%. How can we avoid this problem before it happens?
Usually the psychological problems that lead to an eating disorders are depression, anxiety, stress and other mental problems that become severe. The main problem is in our society and what we view as important in a person, a lot of teenagers want to have a great body so they are not criticized and can be accepted by their friends and the society.
The problem with this mentality is that some teenagers become really obsessed, to the point where if they gain a few calories they dont go out because they clothes wont fit well, so they exercise the whole day and stop eating anything until they have lost all those calories. You need to identify when a teenager is getting in this problem so she can be supported and helped before it becomes anorexia or bulimia. Talk with her, let her tell you the problems she is facing and dont judge her, try to make her understand that she is hearting body and making it worst for her, there are better ways to solve the issue.
