Dramatic Statistics On Eating Disorders

Right now there is a huge problem going on with many teenagers with eating disorders, its known that more that eight million people in the US have eating disorders. We are going to analyze a few statistics on eating disorders.

The two eating disorders categories are anorexia and bulimia, both can have serious consequences when they are not treat it. They are usually the cause of psychological problems in the teenager but differ in how they are.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 5% to 10% of women have eating disorders in the USA. One of every 7 woman have an eating disorder. Also as high as 15% of girls, have bad eating habits or adopt unhealthy behaviors that can lead to eating disorders.

-One in every hundred women purges, binges and vomits to lose weight -Anorexia is found in 5% of women and one percent of men. -In Canada 200,000 to 300,000 women have anorexia and the double of this have bulimia. -Its estimated that one third of dieters have bad diet behaviors, habits and attitudes. -Every day American people spend more than $100 million on diet products and dieting.

And you have to know that many more eating disorders are not reported by the people who have it. If fact many people dont want to admit that they have a psychological problem and eating disorder.

There are some groups or communities that have developed to support people with eating disorders. However some of those are pro anorexia, that means that they help the people with diets and advice to continue a lifestyle of anorexia but do not encourage the cure or professional help.

Some of the most common causes of this problem, is in huge part social pressure. Every where you go people critique un perfect bodies, in school they get criticized by being fat and sometimes humiliated. Thats why you need to be close to your child or teen and talk with her about their social problems.

Its said that up to 40% of teens in school (grades 1,2 and 3rd) want to lose weight to look thinner. And also eighty percent of child of ten year old are worried about being overweight.

Teenagers are seriously influenced by the media and advertising of thin models, they want to become the ideal women or model, they feel the pressure of not being accepted or criticized. In the teenage years when they start looking at guys for them is very important the way they look and this sometimes can become an obsession that leads to depression and eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia.
